Types of colleges studies

The US has an extensive and diverse academic offering, that can lead to confusion in some instances. Below you will find a detail list of the difference between all of the available options so that you can chose the one that better meets your needs.

Undergraduate

In the US it´s also known as bachelor’s degree. In Spain it would be the equivalent to a college degree. It consists of 4 years. You can take it after you have completed your bachillerato and the SAT or ACT acceptance exams.

Postgraduate

It includes any postgraduate degree such as masters or doctorates.

Where can I study?

At this point you probably have read about the different types of universities in the US and that can be confusing. In a few words, we will explain the different types of universities and with our team of consultants we will study your case and help you with your needs.

College

They offer up to a bachelor’s degree. They have all the infrastructure and services a university would offer, they are usually smaller institutions. The class size is smaller and a more personal relationship with professors. They tend to private institutions. The cost is similar to universities and they require a SAT and TOEFL score.

Junior Community College

You can complete a total of 2 years that count towards your bachelor’s degree. After that you will enroll into a college or university. The student will take the basic classes to then transfer to a bigger school and obtain the full degree. The campuses tend to be smaller and in small towns. The cost is lower and they don´t require a SAT or TOEFL score to be admitted.

University

They offer every option from bachelor’s degrees to postgraduate studies and doctorate degrees. They have colleges within the university such as the college of business or the college of science, etc. They usually have big campuses and infrastructure, and they host a lot of students and academic programs. They require a SAT and TOEFL score.
